Protecting a data network is one of the most important aspects of System Administration. Even if you don't have a network of computers to protect, Jordan will share some useful information that can be used to protect your personal computer. He will also discuss some techniques for determining when a computer has been compromised.

Since mid-2003, Wiens has been a Certified Information Systems Security Professional, which highlights his experience and knowledge in a wide variety of security fields. As a member of the Florida state CIRT (Computer Incident Response Team), Wiens is available to state and local law enforcement officials as a technical consultant. He has attended and occasionally presented at various security-related conferences, and has written product reviews and feature articles in magazines such as Network Computing and InfoWorld.

How do you recover data that is difficult to recover? John will profile some interesting tools for doing that job.

John holds certificates as a GIAC Certified Incident Handler (GCIH #631), Firewall Analyst (GCFW #413) and Forensic Analyst (GCFA #257). He is a member of the SANS Advisory Board and has spoken for the past three years at the Florida Association of Educational Data Systems (FAEDS) on incident response and malware analysis. John currently writes independently for Network Computing and Secure Enterprise magazines.
