Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology, or S.M.A.R.T., is a monitoring system for computer hard disks to detect and report on various indicators of reliability, in the hope of anticipating failures.

Every hard drive sold in the last five years is SMART capable but most linux distros do not install the tools you need to take advantage of this feature by default. This spotlight session will show how to get at some of the useful information contained in your hard drive.

humanized alternative to

"Markdown" formats offer a lightweight alternative to more general document markup languages like (X)HTML. In exchange for some of the Byzantine features and formatting control of HTML, you get professional-looking web pages with minimal fuss.

Jim will survey several simple alternatives for creating complex CSS/HTML and demonstrate the results of his favorite one.
