If you use Quicken to track your personal finances, then you probably know that Intuit would like for you to upgrade at least once every three years even if you don't need or want the "upgrade". It also will not run on Linux and Intuit doesn't seem interested in pursuing the growing Linux market. When Intuit turned off my ability to download transactions (a great time saver) to encourage me to upgrade, I was motivated to look for another option. I've found an alternative called Moneydance that meets my needs and runs great on Windows, Linux or Macs since it's written in Java. More information at
6:30-7:30 Presentation | Deploying Asterisk for a Call Center | Martin Smith, Matt Collins, Clinton Collins
After extensive testing, the Bureau of Economic and Business Research moved its 75 station Survey Research call center to a new phone system powered by Asterisk. We will show how and why we did this deployment for our call center.
See this link for some of the testing data:
Asterisk created by Digium, is the industry's first open source PBX. Asterisk is a complete open source PBX. It runs on Linux, BSD and MacOSX and provides all of the features you would expect from a PBX and more. Asterisk handles voice over IP in many protocols, and can interoperate with almost all standards-based telephony equipment using relatively inexpensive hardware. Providing voicemail services with Directory, Call Conferencing, Interactive Voice Response and Call Queuing, Asterisk also has support for three-way calling caller ID services, ADSI, SIP and H.323, as both client and gateway.
